GORE MEADOWS COMMUNITY CENTRE

During the summer of July and August 2014, Team356 held workshops at the Gore Meadows Community Centre. The workshops were free and opened to all youth in and around the community. Castlebrooke’s Team356 decided to hold this workshop after seeing the number of youth who were interested in robotics but did not have it offered at their school. During the month of June, the team went to feeder schools to seek interest in younger students and potentially help them create their own robotics team by mentoring them. During the summer, the team held invitational workshops to all the feeder schools and interested youth in the community.

The workshop was successful, with many youth and their parents showing up and indicating interest in the program. During the workshop, they learned about the different parts and their function and how to sketch a robot. They were also given the opportunity to build and drive their own robot, along with taking part in a simulated competition. Many youth that took part in the workshop found that it was a good experience, which opened their interest to robotics and engineering.
